I moved to Alabama from Wisconsin 7 years ago. Opelika is really close to Auburn, and Auburn is a College town, and so of course there is a nighlife there. My sister is in Auburn, and goes to college there. There are some bars that stay open till like 4am. Montgomery is alright… Opelka is like you said, about 45 min from Montgomery. My parents live there. I don’t know much of the nightlife there. I am sure there is. I have been to a few places there. I like Birmingham though. It is a nice place. And it is a bigger city with party areas. But Opelika or Auburn would be the better places to live if you move to Alabama. Plus, it is close to Georgia. So if you want to go buy lottery tickets, ha it is only like 30 minutes away. Hope you have fun in Alabama!

sorry hon, but the only cities that may offer the same excitement as New Orleans are Birmingham and Mobile, and maybe Auburn, since it is a college town. I live in Prattville, which is seperated from Montgomery by the river. I go to school and for all intensive purposes practically live in Montgomery. Montgomery isn’t a happenin city. There are only a handful of clubs. 322 is a gay club and Off the Wagon is a bar, that is where most of the somewhat decent shows are. 10 years played there about 2 months ago. decent show actually. Most of the good shopping in montgomery is on the east side, because they keep building farther and farther east, and the farther east the nicer, so the downtown area is mainly municipal, although there are a lot of small resaraunts and cafe’s to choose from downtown.

I apologize that i don’t know much about Opelika. I actually moved to bama 2.5 yrs ago from ohio. BTW Prattville is “the preferred community.” If you are ever in the montgomery area, take an extra 20-30 min to drive to prattville. It’s spread out. It has a very nice historic downtown with a ton of antique shops and a great bistro “MarChelle’s.” The east side, “uptown” is where they have built a lot of new shopping centers, and a huge outdoor mall, although the mall is to be occupiable within this year.

Oh, also Montgomery has quite a few secondary schools.
    Auburn Montgomery (AUM)
Troy University Montgomery (TUM although it is still referred to as TSUM)
    Faulkner University
    Huntingdon University
    Alabama State University
    Virginia Tech
And a couple others, so if your a social butterfly you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a good party.

Sorry that i don’t have any specifics on your area, but i hope this helps.
